HOW DO YOU PLAY THE DRUMS?

WELCOME TO The SCIENCE OF DRUMMING

“How you play the drums” may seem like a simple question, but there are answers that borrow from movement science, psychology, and other fields of research that haven’t been translated for drummers in a way that we can all use. That’s why we’re here. You probably have questions, such as: What’s the best way to approach learning the drums? What is it, exactly, that we actually need to learn? How can we make the most of our time in the practice room? (And what is that even supposed to mean?) There are lots of opinions among drummers on how to tackle those questions, but there are also actual answers that are grounded in scientific research and theory. We’re here to talk about those answers and what they mean for our playing.

Welcome to The Science of Drumming, where you can find resources that offer a fresh and scientifically grounded perspective on playing the drum set.

As drummers, we all have access to plenty of information on what to play, but we might not understand how everything fits into the knowledge, skills, abilities and expertise that we’re trying to build. By getting more familiar with the science behind drumming, you can gain new perspectives and a deeper understanding of your playing abilities and possibilities.

Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, The Science of Drumming has something to offer you — because it applies to anyone holding drumsticks in their hands.
